Cost: $10/child for two demonstration in either the morning or afternoon.

 

Details on the Day:  Registration for the day will be between 9am and 10am for the morning group and 11am-12am for the afternoon group. At the registration table, you pick out the tickets for the two sessions you plan to attend.  20 tickets are available per time slot per workshop.  Demonstration will be free to all.  Workshops begin on the hour, and end with enough time to find the next workshop room.

Lunch Break: You may either bring a sack lunch and eat it anywhere on campus, or food is available for purchase at The Lodge (UCCS Student Cafeteria), which is a 10 minute walk from the Science Auditorium. Sack Lunch can be eaten during the demonstration

Workshop/ Demo

Description

Polymers (ages 5 and up)

Ooey-gooey SLIME that you get to take home with you!  Plus, be a super-absorbent polymer detective, and when you find it, find out, hands on, what super-absorbent really means! 

CSI (ages 5 and up)

Your detective and there is terrible crime. Use science to decipher the cools and discover the culprit!

Photography (ages 5 and up)

You won't believe how easy it is to make a pinhole camera!  In this workshop, we use a pinhole camera to take a picture and then develop it - the results are surprising sometimes!  Take your photographic masterpiece with you!

Physics (ages 5 and up)

Ever wonder how cars move, how airplanes fly, why stars are so bright? The Physics session will use hands on demos to animate these concepts and more!

Dry Ice (ages 5 and up)

Dry Ice is VERY COOL stuff.  Really - it's minus 110 deg!  Find out more about this fascinating substance, and take home tips to amaze your friends! (Safety note: to do this workshop you MUST bring thick winter gloves with you and be able to follow instructions well.  Dry Ice can burn you if you don't handle it the way we will instruct.)

Optics (ages 5 and up)

Fun with lasers, lens, and mirrors. Play pin the tail on the donkey from a distance over a hundred feet!!

Exhibits (all ages)

A place for the parents and young ones to hang out and play with some science toys and relax!!
